Light shown onto the village another day. It was still the beginning of dawn, so there was overall darkness, and a very faint light. Tadeo woke up again around this time, but he just laid there, staring at the ceiling again. He didn't want to get up, yet. Laying in his mattress, he held the sheets over him, and tried to go back to sleep. He drifted in and out of a deep sleep a few times, but ultimately not too much time passed. He would look out the window in the side of his cottage and see that it was still pretty dark out. For once, Tadeo was feeling lazy and didn't want to get up for training, just yet. After a while, Tadeo was able to get a little more shut eye. That is, until he started hearing rustling outside his window. Moving his head away from the window, not wanting it to disturb him, the young Saiyan tried to block it out. However, once he heard a thud from inside his room, next to the window, he suddenly got a bit worried and alarmed. He lifted his head to look and saw that it was only Kali. Tadeo's face got flustered a little bit, and he began wondering why she was here. The Saiyan sat up, looking straight at her, with the blanket still over his half naked body.
"Kali?"
His voice was lowered and quiet, despite being in his own separate cottage, which wasn't connected to anyone else's. Kali smiled as she put her hands behind her back. Kali was a dark skinned girl with blue eyes. She was short in stature, shorter than Tadeo, and she had short brown hair. Both Tadeo and Kali were the same age. Kali had lost her mother at a young age, and her father was distraught because of it. For a while, they lived in their own cottage on their own. However, when more and more homeless people came around, Kali and her father accepted them into their neighborhood, creating the village present this day.
Kali smiled and lowered herself to Tadeo. She didn't realize he was shirtless, yet.
"Good morning, sleepy head."
She kept her voice quiet just like Tadeo. She had a soft, gentle, and warm voice. It was a voice that reminded him a little of his late mother. However, whenever he thought this, or whenever he heard Kali's voice, he didn't have flashbacks to his family's death.
"What're you doing in my room?"
"Breaking and entering."
"Isn't that a crime?"
"What? In a village like this? The only crime you could commit is killing everyone here."
Tadeo gritted his teeth. He wasn't sure how she could be so free spirited, especially right now where she's obviously invading his personal privacy. Even so, Tadeo didn't mind it as much. If he did mind it, he'd try to fight her. Kali's smile soon turned into a frown and she leaned in closer to Tadeo.
"It's also a crime not to let me stay in your bed while the morning is so cold."
Even more flustered and surprised, Tadeo lifted the blanket, allowing her to move into it if she wanted. At this point, she realized Tadeo was shirtless, and she started to get flustered.
Wait a minute, he sleeps shirtless? Why did I do this? This is probably so awkward right now! What should I do? What should I do? What should I do?
Without thinking again, Kali slipped in with Tadeo, despite him being shirtless. The stud Tadeo was now completely flustered, and now Kali was, too. It was hard for them to even look each other in the eyes. Uncomfortable still sitting up, Tadeo went under the sheets again, but faced opposite to Kali. She did the same with Tadeo, in order to prevent him from looking at her red face. For a while, the two of them laid there in silence. Of course, Kali wasn't cold anymore, but she wanted something else at this point. Kali turned over to Tadeo, who had his muscular back facing her. Mesmerized and a little flustered by this, Kali moved in closer and closer, ever so slowly. When she got her right arm over his, attempting to hold him, Tadeo started to look back over his shoulder to see how light it was outside. Quickly, Kali retracted her arm and put the bottom half of her face under the blanket. Tadeo didn't notice what she was trying to do, but his face was still flustered after seeing her. He looked out the window, seeing there was much more orange than there was before in the sky. A little disappointed, Tadeo spoke up again, still looking away from Kali.
"I have to go start my training, soon. So, I have to get up now."
Kali was a bit disappointed. She lifter her face up from the sheets and looked down, upset.
"Oh...Where are you going for it?"
"Past the hills and to a waterfall. There's someone waiting for me there to train me."
"Is he strong?"
"Yeah, he is."
The two laid in silence again for a little bit. Tadeo expected Kali to leave already, but she was still determined to spend time with him. Then, she made a decision, the excitement returning to her voice.
"All right. Then, I'll go with you."
Tadeo looked back at her in surprise.
"What? Are you sure? What about your father?"
"It's all right with him, he trusts you. Besides we have nothing going on today, so it'll be just fine."
"You know the type of training we're going through, right?"
"Yeah, fighting, what else? You just admitted he was strong and you don't look like the type of person to cook or hold a job."
"Okay, now you're just patronizing me."
Kali giggled and climbed over Tadeo, in a bold and subtle move. She sat on his waist and looked down on him.
"Well, come on. Let's get going."
Tadeo became a little more flustered now and it took a while before Kali realized what she was doing. Once she did, her face became very red and she climbed off of Tadeo and continuously bowed to him.
"I'm sorry I did that! I didn't realize what I was doing! Please forgive me! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorr-"
"It's all right! Stop saying you're sorry."
The Human girl and Saiyan boy sat in silence for a very short amount of time again, until Tadeo broke the silence.
"So, are you gonna go in that?"
Tadeo and Kali both looked at what she was wearing. She had a white tank top on, which was tight and showed her figure off. Her shorts were blue, and stopped right above the beginning of the thigh. They were also tight jean shorts. Finally, she wore simply sandals on her feet. Kali shrugged to Tadeo.
"Yeah, I guess. Is there anything wrong with it?"
"No, guess not. Just wondering."
Tadeo got up from bed and went to his closet/dresser to pull out his only pair of clothing: his silver and green gi, which was also a hand-me-down from his mother. As Tadeo pulled off his sleeping pants, he looked to Kali nervously.
"You might wanna look away for this."
Immediately, the flustered Kali turned around on Tadeo's bed, her back facing him, so he could get dressed.
The two teens left Tadeo's cottage, closed the door behind them and started their venture out of the village and to the waterfall, which wasn't too far away. They would get there at the pace they're going just before dawn fully broke, and just before Tadeo's mentor woke up. Silence settled upon the two as the exited the village and started on a tree filled road. The trees were tall and permitted little light to come through. Tadeo liked this path, due to his sensitive eyes and secluded nature. Kali followed right next to Tadeo.
"You take this path every day, huh?"
"Yup."
"Is there any other route to the waterfall? This seems pretty dark and gloomy."
"Haven't checked. Besides I like dark and gloomy. And I also have sensitive eyesight, so I can't really look up at the sky or anything without my eyes hurting or going blind for a half a minute."
"Oh...I'm sorry. I didn't know."
"You like apologizing today, don't you?"
"Well, you're talking much more today than ever before."
Tadeo shook his head in silence, trying to avoid the subject. However, Kali was persistent.
"Tadeo, what happened to you before you came here? You never wanted to talk about it."
"I didn't, and I still don't. It's too personal."
"Oh, come on. You have to tell me sometime. You can't keep this from me forever."
"I know. Which is why I'll try to keep it from you as long as I can."
"That's cold! I only wanna help you."
"I know, and thank you for caring. I'm just not ready to talk about it, yet."
"It's been five years and you're still saying that? What if something happens to us and you'll never get to tell us?"
"Nothing will happen. You guys have me here. I'll protect you guys, and make it up to her."
Kali looked at Tadeo in frustration.
"Who's 'her?'"
Panicking a little bit, Tadeo looked around nervously, trying to decide what to do. He dropped his right hand, which he'd clenched into a fist, and sighed.
"I'll tell you this much: that 'her' is my mother. She's not around anymore. I wasn't able to protect her back then, so I'm going to make it up to her by protecting you and everyone else here."
Embarrassment creeping up on her a little bit, Kali's frustrated face quickly faded away.
"Oh, shit...I'm sorry, Tadeo."
"Ugh, stop apologizing. I already know you're sorry."
"I'm sorry I just can't help it whenever I say something insensitive like that!"
Tadeo rolled his eyes and continued to look forward. A hill lie in front of the two, and they began to climb it. This was the final part until the two got to Tadeo's training grounds.
"Is your mother's absence the reason why you're so timid and shy?"
Pausing a bit, Tadeo answered with a straight face.
"Partially. It's also partially the reason why I get so serious when fighting, and the reason why I'm so angry on the inside."
"What do you mean?"
"You'll see very soon."
With that, Tadeo and Kali came up over the hill, looking off into the distance at the waterfall, the trees surrounding it, and Tadeo's mentor.
Picture of Kali:
